Inglourious Basterds - It's bloody, filled with great dialogue, and very very funny. Quentin Tarantino at his very best.
Up - Pixar does it again, this time with their most mature, tearful, and funny film yet.
Star Trek - The best Star Trek film since Wrath of Khan.
The Hurt Locker - This will win Best Picture for sure. Most powerful and thrilling movie I've ever seen.
The Hangover - Funniest movie I've seen all year, probably ever.
Public Enemies - Johnny Depp is fantastic, and the film is engrossing and action-packed.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - Easily the best and darkest Harry Potter film yet.
Avatar - Mind blowing. Unlike anything I've ever seen. Deserves TONS of Oscars.
Now before I get to my favorite movie, here's the three WORST movies I've seen all year:
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra - Way to ruin my childhood. This movie is the epitome of retarded.
Terminator Salvation - I loved this when I saw it in the theater, but once I got it on Blu-Ray, I realized how bad the effects were and that there was virtually no plot at all. This blew.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - Worst fucking movie I've ever seen in my whole life. No lie, I wanted to gouge my eyes out of my skull.
Now, finally, my favorite movie of the year:

No film this year (with the only exception being The Hurt Locker and maybe Avatar) captured my attention so fully or took my breath away as much as District 9 did. This is the single greatest sci-fi film in over a decade. Made only for about $30 million (which is hard to believe since the effects are mesmerizing), first-time director Neil Blomkamp has crafted a fine sci-fi action movie as well as an enduring drama about tolerance and change. The acting is top-notch, the action is thrilling, and the emotion is gripping. You can't miss this movie. To me, it's almost perfect and represents everything that I love about movies. This film is a total work of art and my favorite film of 2009.
So there you have it. Here's to more great movies in 2010!
