I've had a little bit of time with the little tablet computer and here are some of the things that I noticed:
- The iPad is amazingly fast, even faster than the iPhone 3GS. It starts up rather quickly and loads apps really fast.
- The picture quality is great, especially with movies. HD pictures look great too. This would be a great device to show off you photo portfolio to people.
- Every single app you have for you iPhone works on the iPad, but doesn't fill the screen all the way. You can stretch it out a bit but the picture gets distorted a bit.
- The keypad that pops up when you need to type something works really well, but Apple sells an actual keyboard that you can hook up you iPad to, and it works well too.
- The battery life seems good but not great. Watching movies and playing games in HD drain the battery life fast.
- The Wi-FI works well at your home, but gets kind of slow when you go out elsewhere. The 3G model would be great if you didn't have to pay AT&T for its service.
So overall the iPad may not be a necessity, but it's an incredible little device and it sure to impress your friends. If you can spare the $500 you might want to pick one up, especially if you don't already own a MacBook or an iPhone.
