Top Five Albums of 2009: #4

Continuing the countdown, here's the next one.
You can also jump to each of the five albums (once they're revealed of course) using the links to the right.

Number 4:
Arctic Monkeys - Humbug

First things first: this album does take some getting used to. It is almost a complete change from the previous two Arctic Monkeys albums, but is also a logical step forward for the band. The tempo is slowed down a bit, gone are the fast-paced anthems about youth and love. They are replaced with mid-tempo blazers like "Crying Lightning" and "Pretty Visitors" that still deal with youth and love, yet the lyrics are more grown up and even more focused. "Humbug" was produced by Josh Homme (of QOTSA) and it shows. Whether it's through the dark tone or the squeaky guitars, his guiding hand is felt throughout the entire record. Those looking for more super powerful and super fast songs may be turned off (as I was initially), but those who stay with the record and really dig into will be rewarded. This is a record that deserves (no, requires) more than one listen, and trust me, it just keeps getting better each time you hear it.

Definitely Download:
"Cornerstone", "Crying Lighting", "Dangerous Animals"
